Craft Q & A
Q: Raseena wrote in looking for ideas for a bulletin boards and we are grateful for the many responses - we have listed many of them on our school page

Q: Jeannie would like to start primative stitching and is looking for tips.

What our Readers Have to Say:
Sharon from Missouri was generous enough to send in her plastic canvas pattern

Thanks to so many of you who wrote in your good wishes for my son's wedding. As soon as I scan the photos of the flowers I will add them to the site and share them with all of you.

We just bought a new house so my attention will be divided for the next month.

Annette wrote in to say her family likes to get bargains when we go up north (Ohio). Garage Sales are limited due to winter weather, so everyone gets rid of all they can in the short amount of summertime that they have. The best time for us to check out sales is during July--specifically the week of "Jamboree in the Hills" (the Superbowl of country music). If your area is famous for a seasonal event, that could be the best time to have a garage sale or to go hunting for great bargains.

To make a centerpiece of snowmen Naomi starts with white garbage bags 'fluffed' on her tabletop. She hides white lights under the plastic and places snowman figures on top.

During the long winter months the Harper family builds alot of snowmen. They like to add spaghetti as hair. By the second day the spaghetti becomes limp and adds to the 'look'.

Snowman Pins
We made these for our Christmas Bazaar and they were quick and cute.
Start with a half an egg shape and paint it white, let dry, drill a hole and glue in a carrot nose (a sharpened dowel painted orange) let the paint dry. We added eyes, blush cheeks, and a smile and let that dry. The hat was the top of a baby sock knotted, inverted, and hot glued into place. A pin back was hot glued to the back and they were finished.

For more ideas we have added a new page

1 individual packet of hot cocoa mix or 3 TBSP of the following combined and enclosed in a baggie:
  • 3 Cups powdered Sugar
  • 1 Cup nonfat dry milk
  • 2 Cups instant Nesquick
  • 3/4 Cup non dairy coffee creamer
  • 1 6 ounce box instant chocolate pudding mix
Candy Cane
3 Chocolate Kisses
6 Miniature Marshmallows

Add above to a Mug, embellish as desired and attach the following poem:

Was told that you've been good this year,
I'm always glad to hear it.
With freezing weather drawing near,
You'll need to warm your spirit.
So here's a little Snowman Soup
Complete with stirring stick,
Just add hot water, sip it slow,
It's sure to do the trick!

Quick Craft
To make a quick Snowman pillow start with tea stained or white felt. Using a plate as a circle template cut out 2 pieces - add button eyes, an orange felt nose and embellish with a hat and scarf. Use floss and a blanket stitch to close stuffing with either a pillow form or stuffing.
